Pizza Pasta

Yields:  6 servings

Pizza pasta is a winner!  Everyone loves pizza.  Children and adults will love it.  My husband cannot keep his fork out of my preparation; it's almost gone before I am done and ready to serve.  Instead of  pizza, try pizza pasta with all your favorite toppings.  Just substitute them for the ingredients I've listed.  My family likes it with green and red peppers, onions, pepperoni and sausage.  Do what you like and let me know your families' favorites!  Enjoy.

3 T. olive oil
1/2 green pepper chopped chunky
1/2 red pepper chopped chunky
1 medium onion chopped chunky
3 T. minced garlic
1 lb. ground turkey sausage
1 1/2 c. pepperoni cut in half
2 cups of tomato sauce
1/2 c. wine
2 c. of marinara sauce ( my recipe is in the blog)
1/2 c. parmegiano cheese
12 oz. shredded mozzerela cheese
1 lb pasta of choice, ( I use bow ties or spaghetti, rigatoni would be good too.)
salt and pepper, red pepper, Italian seasoning to taste
1/2 c. chopped fresh basil

In large saute pan put 11/2 T. olive oil and cook turkey sausage until cooked through.  Remove from pan. Add wine and scrape bits from the bottom (it cooks off the alcohol so no worries for your children).  In the same pan add the other 11/2 T. olive oil, onion, garlic, green pepper and red pepper and cook until tender. Season all vegetables to taste with salt, pepper, Italian seasonings and crushed red pepper. Add pepperoni, both tomato ingredients and simmer for 5 minutes.  Meanwhile, boil water for pasta.  Cook pasta until al dente.  Save pasta water and add to sauce if it needs thinned.  Add finished pasta to sauce and add Mozzerella and Parmegiano cheese.  Mix well and serve topped with fresh basil and more Parmegiano cheese to taste.  Enjoy!
