Chocolate martini trifle

                                               CHOCOLATE MARTINI TRIFLE!

This trifle is a show stopper!  The presentation is dramatic, and after one bite you are in heaven.  In my house after a late party my dear friend Olivia and I would be found forks in hand eating straight out of the trifle (double dipping and all)!  The next morning it is wonderful with your favorite cup of  coffee.   It is just one of those irresistible, "party in your mouth" desserts, and is great to make for your family and friends over the holidays.

Yields about 20 servings

1 chocolate fudge cake mix, prepared
1 small bottle Kahlua
1 cup Dove Chocolate Martini Mix
12 oz package Ghiardelli dark chocolate morsels
12 oz package Heath toffees sprinkles
2 large containers of Cool Whip
6-8 oz jar of fudge
6-8 oz jar of caramel
12 oz bottle of fudge syrup

Bake cake in 13"x9" pan.
When cooled, poke holes throughout entire cake with a skewer (poke hole all the way to bottom)
Cover entire cake with Kahlua so it absorbs to the bottom of the cake.  Repeat three times within an hour.  Top with Dove Chocolate Martini Mix, and refrigerate overnight.

Cut cake into 2" cubes.

Using a glass trifle dish, layer in the following sequence:

  • Squeeze fudge syrup to cover the bottom of the trifle dish
  • Assemble cake cubes evenly and closely to cover entire bottom
  • Drip fudge
  • Drip caramel
  • Add toffee sprinkles ( I sometimes use heath bar candy bars cut up...do your favorite one.)
  • Add dark chocolate morsels
  • Add fudge syrup
  • Spread thick layer of Cool Whip
Repeat layering process two additional times.
For the final layer put a heavy topping of cool whip,  toffee sprinkles, and  dark chocolate morsels.
Drizzle caramel sauce and chocolate sauce in a criss-cross pattern.

A spectacular display, and a real delight.  ENJOY!
