Italian Turkey Pesto Burger
Turkey burgers can be whatever you want them to be. I love to take ground turkey that is 7 % fat vs. the 99 % fat free and make fun creations out of it. It is still a lot less fat than a ground beef burger and with the spices and added flavors this is a tender and juicy burger no matter how you slice it!! I was in an Italian mood when I created this Pesto burger with roasted red pepper and provolone cheese. This is a hit!
Recipe:
Yields 4-6 depending on size of burgers you like
1 lb. ground turkey
1/4 lb. sliced provolone cheese
4 roasted red peppers
1 small jar of pesto for spreading on the burger and roll
salt and pepper to taste
1/2 t. garlic salt
1/2 t. basil
1/2 t. oregano
red pepper flakes to taste
1 T. parmegiano cheese grated
2 T. tomato paste or ketchup
1T. Dijon mustard
1 t. Worcestershire sauce
4 -6 Italian crusty ciabatta rolls or my homemade french bread recipe ( which is what I used!)
Mix turkey with all the dried herbs, tomato paste, Dijon mustard, and Worcestershire sauce together. Make into burger patties. Grill until cooked through.
Spread pesto on both sides of your roll, top with provolone cheese, roasted red pepper and the star of the show....the burger with a little more pesto on top of it! ENJOY!
